Public awareness program

Keeping communities informed and pipelines safe

Our Public Awareness Program is designed to educate, inform and empower landowners, contractors, emergency responders and community members with the knowledge needed to stay safe around pipelines. We are committed to proactive communication and seek meaningful engagement with the communities we serve.

Public safety

Promoting awareness.
Preventing incidents.

Unintended third-party damage is one of the leading causes of pipeline incidents nationwide. That is why our Public Awareness Program focuses on prevention through outreach and education. We follow applicable guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and we tailor our outreach based on each stakeholder group’s role and needs.

Our program aims to:

Increase awareness of pipeline locations and safety precautions

Promote safe behaviors during excavation and land use activities

Strengthen emergency preparedness and coordination

Foster a culture of safety and shared responsibility

Public Awareness Brochures

Transporting natural gas and natural gas liquids safely, reliably, and cost-effectively requires a commitment to pipeline safety. Therefore, Boardwalk applies careful design, construction and maintenance procedures.

Our Public Awareness program is intended to reach public officials, emergency responders contractors, and people who live and work near our facilities, to raise their awareness of the location of our facilities, how to prevent damage from excavation, and what to do and whom to contact in case of an emergency. Information is provided in multiple languages.

Boardwalk provides more detailed pipeline safety information to landowners and residents along the pipeline right-of-way. Boardwalk also works with local officials and emergency responders to coordinate emergency response plans.
