Eunice Reliability and Lake Charles Supply Project
Replaces older compressor engines with modern, low-emission turbines
Enhances system reliability and gas supply to the Lake Charles region
Reduces emissions and operational noise through advanced technologies
Project overview

Texas Gas Transmission, LLC, proposed the Eunice Reliability and Lake Charles Supply Project (Eunice Project) to support the long-term reliability of its interstate pipeline system and modernize existing facilities to reduce emissions and noise. This project will bring gas supplies from Perryville, Louisiana to the Lake Charles area, strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure.
The Eunice Project will replace older, less efficient reciprocating engines with two new gas turbine engines at the existing Eunice Compressor Station located in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. These upgrades are designed to reduce emissions, improve operational reliability and reduce noise levels.

The Eunice Project proposes to abandon in place five reciprocating compressor units (totaling 6,650 horsepower (HP)) and replace them with two new low-emission Solar turbine units—a T70 and T60—providing a combined 15,359 HP at the Eunice Compressor Station in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. The project also includes installation of associated gas cooling, suction and discharge piping, auxiliary facilities, and over-pressure protection equipment at Texas Gas’s Woodlawn Junction in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana. Texas Gas will also lease 120,000 Dth/d of newly created firm transportation capacity to Gulf South for delivery into the Lake Charles area as part of the Eunice Project.
Key Project Components
Compressor Upgrade: Replacement of five reciprocating units (6,650 HP) with two Solar turbine units totaling 15,359 HP, along with supporting infrastructure at the Eunice Compressor Station in Acadia Parish, LA.
Over-Pressure Protection Installation: Construction of over-pressure protection facilities at Woodlawn Junction in Jefferson Davis Parish, LA.
Capacity Lease Agreement: Creation and lease of 120,000 Dth/d of new firm transportation capacity to Gulf South, enabling efficient gas delivery into the Lake Charles area.
Construction / Operation / Safety
The Eunice Compressor Station will be constructed and operated in accordance with safety and engineering standards established by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). During construction, qualified inspectors oversee every phase to ensure compliance with safety protocols, including thorough testing of equipment and systems before the station becomes operational. The station will be equipped with emergency shutdown systems to halt operations safely if needed and will be monitored 24/7 from a centralized control center to track gas flow, pressure, and equipment conditions.
Operational safety is reinforced through regular inspections and maintenance to detect potential issues early. The station will also engage with local communities through public awareness programs, providing safety information and emergency contact details. Compressor stations like Eunice are designed to help reduce risk to surrounding areas and include features such as automatic and manual valves for rapid isolation, as well as coordination with first responders to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency.
Environmental Considerations
The Eunice Compressor Station will incorporate advanced low-emission turbine technology to significantly reduce air pollutants, including nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). These reductions will be achieved through the use of Solar Turbines’ SoLoNOx systems to help keep emissions within federal and state regulatory limits. The station’s design supports Texas Gas’s commitment to environmental stewardship and public health by transitioning the facility from a major to a minor source under Louisiana’s air permitting program.
Noise mitigation is also a key consideration in the station’s design. Noise-reduction technologies will be implemented to maintain sound levels below 55 decibels—comparable to a quiet conversation—at the nearest noise-sensitive areas such as homes or businesses. Noise surveys will be conducted before and after construction to verify compliance with federal standards and to ensure that operational sound levels remain within acceptable limits. These measures help ensure the station operates safely and responsibly within the surrounding community.
The timeline below reflects key milestones in the permitting, engagement, and construction process for the Eunice Project. We will continue to update this section as the project progresses.
General Project Timeline
- Stakeholder Engagement: Q1 2024 – Throughout project
- Regulatory Review: May 2024 - April 2025
- Construction: September 2026 – April 2027
- In-Service: April 2027
Construction updates
Construction crews will mobilize at the Eunice Compressor Station site to begin initial activities, including site preparation and material staging. All personnel received training on applicable Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) environmental conditions, construction safety protocols, and operational standards to ensure compliance and protect surrounding communities. These early efforts lay the foundation for safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible construction throughout the duration of the project.
We prioritize early outreach, public input, and local investment to ensure our projects reflect community needs and values.

As part of the Eunice Reliability and Lake Charles Project, Texas Gas is committed to investing in the communities along the project route. Our efforts go beyond infrastructure — we support local priorities through charitable giving, education, workforce development, and engagement with first responders. These investments reflect our long-term commitment to safety, partnership, and meaningful local impact.
Project support

Texas Gas is regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), a federal agency that oversees the transportation of natural gas projects that cross state lines. FERC’s role is to ensure these projects are safe, environmentally responsible and in the public interest. Before any major project can move forward, FERC reviews project plans in detail and decides whether it meets all the necessary standards.
